Asian-American Festival - 1999 - Report

After the Musical Skit Performance of "Mot Me Tram Con"

Hello all;

We had a great show yesterday at Asian American Festival despite the fact that we had to change many performers at the last minute. Great thanks to all members who chipped in at the last minute to play the important roles like Au Co*, Lac Long Quan (special thanks to Tina Nguyen and Tran Ngoc Thien who have performed really well in these two roles, especially Thien with his excellent martial art performance!).

Also another special thank for Nguyen Phuc Vinh Hap for responding to my ask for help, travelling all the way from Austin and willing to perform a role that was not very comfortable for him (he has to perform as the lady from the north region with all the a'o tu*' tha^n costume, he did catch good attention from the audience though, :-)). Many many thanks Hap, your help meant a great deal for the whole team as I mentioned in the dinner after the show.

We had about 25-30 members yesterday and also some other members showing up to support. Also another thank to the Lion Dance Team led by Nghi Pham (although this dance could be improved a great deal since we did not have enough lion dancers), it did catch the audience's attention.  One American lady kept asking me whether there would be a lion dance or not and I told her to wait until our performance. Although to be honest, the Lion Dance did not perform to its expectation due to the lack of resources, but it helped to create a good start for our show.

Overall, the audience seemed enjoying our show a lot and at least we told them the famous legend of Vietnamese people (con Ro^`ng cha'u Tie^n)...

Please join me to give a round of applause to the Musical Skit Team led by Huyen Thanh for their excellent job yesterday. Also all members who did not perform on the stage but helped out with the Transportation and back stage crew, and also for those who showed up to support us. We all had a great time with perfect weather.

Pictures will be scanned in our web site soon. In the meanwhile, you can check out our most recent updated pictures of Trung thu festival (go to http://www.vhkhvn.org click on Activities, click on Trung Thu Festival and then click on Report about the event, we had about 8 pictures of the event just been loaded to our web site.

Best regards,
Anhlan Nguyen
