Len Duong camp '99 was the best present I have ever given myself. It was my first time with the organization and I can proudly say, there wasn't a dull moment. I was entertained by anh Lac (transportation) on the way into camp of story of 6 chickens for chao ga to serve 300 people... was there really 6 chickens , or was he pulling my leg?

The planning of the camp leaders was excellent: the participants were involved from the beginning with puzzles that got people talking in order to solve them - what an excellent idea! The speakers, especially Ms. Wong and Ms.Huong were inspirational; the fact that they are women, made it more so to me. Ms. Huong's determination to do things her own way and succeeded helped to rejuvenate my belief in myself to do things my own way. ( I think sometimes I need to be reminded that I'm not so crazy after all, that my brain and my heart know what master plan is, and I'm just not aware of it).

With regard to the games, the singing, the group activities - heh, what can I say , they were all well planned, nicely spaced and lots of fun! Hats off to anh Dung of Portland, Oregon - what a jester! what a comedian! I considered it my privilege to have been on the same team as him.

However, my most moving moment in camp was the opened forum. I did not have any expectation coming into the camp. The talks about Vietnam, what we can do to better our people and to advance our country showed me that there are young, serious people out there that care, and that I'm not alone in my feeling. I was very moved; I felt connected , like I found a home. My only regret was there was limited time allocated to this discussion.

As the monk said during Sunday's speech, there is very few moments in life where everything is perfect, and when the conditions are perfect, one should learn to enjoy and to appreciate it - Len Duong camp was one such moment in my life. I walked away feeling more patriotic than ever, more " Vietnamese " than I thought possible. I am inspired to be more fluent in my mother tongue, something my parents have never been able to influence. In that sense, I sincerely think the organizing committee had succeeded more than they think.

Chi Anh Lan and Thanh,

Since I will be unable to attend our meeting on Friday, I wanted to send a quick email to express my admiration of the work that you both have put into making the camp a success. Of course, you were able to enlist a large number of people to contribute and work with you, but it wouldn't have been possible without you both. I wish that I could be as dedicated as you! I'm glad to read the great emails that you have forwarded, because they were in line with my sentiments as well. Despite some of the frustrations (which mostly remained internal in the organizing group), Len Duong '99 was a remarkable event to unite VN youth to discuss leadership, team work, VN culture, activism. With the tremendous efforts of Anh Tuan and Anh Nam, we all had fun with the songs and games. I am very proud to be on the same team as you and the people you bring together!

camp99 is a connection of the whole group of Tran Hung Dao and you know what, we are still keep in touch every often. (most of our members). We even just have our group meeting last Saturday for people who live in Houston. I also didn't have chance to read our own Bich Bao because half of my team work in Bich Bao and half on skit. Unfortunately, I like to talk and do'ng ki.ch. my question is do you post the bb in internet??? Dear chi. Lan, I am also want to attend in the your organization, but I have to work at night shift. that is the only thing that I can't go to the meeting in vhkhvn, do you think I should go ahead and join without go to meeting??? I want to participate more than just being a member and do nothing. please let me know your idea thanks, and I will never can forget camp 99…

Chao Cac Anh Chi Em trong Doan Quang Trung va ban moi:

I hope everyone had a safe drive back home from the Len Duong '99 Camping Trip. I would like to take this opportunity of sending the list of e-addresses to also thank everyone for a wonderful, memorable

experience. You have all left an impression on me that i will hold dear, especially w/ the many exceptional talents that each and everyone of you displayed throughout the 4 days of activities. I value the friendship that developed between us and wish that everyone will stay in touch.

Also, i would like to state that i have learned much from the invaluable lessons and speeches given by the distinguished guests and group leaders (anh chi huynh truong); i hope you have learned much as well, if not

even more. I am aware that my understanding is limited to my Vietnamese vocabulary, which i embarrassingly admit is awful. However, this does not discourage me from attending the next Len Duong Camping Trip but also fuels my thrust to study the Vietnamese language to improve my understanding and knowledge. Well, i trust that you all will apply what you have learned from this trip and continue to be active in your community.

Take care and pls keep in touch.

Best Regards,

wpe4.jpg (723 bytes) First of all, em xin phe’p vie^’t ba(`ng tie^’ng Anh. It is much faster and even more important – less grammatical errors.

Thank you very much for opening my eyes to other organizations in sinh hoa.t. As someone who has been in an organized setting for 18 years, I find it refreshing and encouraging to find other organizations like ones. My purpose of coming to this camp was to learn and open my mind to new ideas and open my outlook on every aspects. I am truly grateful for the hard work both physically but more importantly spiritually that Ban To^? Chu*’c has put into this camp. My own experiences have taught me and given me an insight as to the mental and physical fatigue that come with organizing such a camp. I really can not express how much gratitude and appreciation that I highly hold for ta^’t ca? Ca’c anh chi.

This experience will never be forgotten and to show my appreciation with the only way I know how – I will carry the lessons taught and learned from this camp and hopefully I will be able to incorporate them in my organization.

Once again, tha`nh tha^.t ca?m ta. Va` quy’ me^’n ta^’t ca? Ca’c anh chi.

wpe4.jpg (723 bytes) I enjoyed most learning about other people’s experiences. Discovering people that I can share my experience with. I have been very impressed with the friends I’ve met here at the camp.

wpe4.jpg (723 bytes) I think the leadership camp can improve by installing more activities like the ones involved on Sunday. Saturday’s activities were not very effective in building leadership or promoting team work. I suggest

more physical games like tug-of-war or volley ball. All need teamwork.

wpe4.jpg (723 bytes) In general all of the activities and programs are great but it seems that time is always rushed. Not giving enough time to "soak" in what happened.
