For those of you who missed the Toastmaster meeting last Friday, you indeed missed a lot. We had a great time last Friday night with the toastmaster session that was full of inspiring thoughts and sharing. We had about 30 members and friends joining this time and the active participation of attendees during the table topic discussion made the event really interesting and inspiring.
We had Britany Le, as the Word master, introduced the word "Hie^'u" (fillial piety) (hie^'u as a verb, as an adjective and as a noun).
Then Duy Nguyen warmed everyone up with his Joke of the Day.
The table topic discussion led by anh Nong Duy Truong was the most interesting part for the meeting with the two very touching issues,
first question "How do you define chu*~ Hie^'u? If some persons who have old parents with some illness that they cannot take care, they decide to send their parents to the nursing home, how would you judge this action, do those persons follow chu*~ Hie^'u or not? and Why?;
Second question "You only have one life to live.
Why don't you live it to enjoy yourself? Because you
don't have another life to enjoy. Do you choose to live for yourself or
you choose to live for others, and why?".
It was a pleasant surprise to see many people speaking on these issues and sometimes had contradicting opinions on the judgement of the action in the first question. We had a very good debating session and we might come back to this another time to continue to discuss further. It was encouraging to see that there were a couple of members seeing the first issue as a problem and proposing the solution of building a Vietnamese nursing home to take care of our old people whose population will be increased significantly in the next ten years.
There were three speakers in this meeting. Elena Thuy Tran started with some sharing of reflections and aspiration in life and she captured the audience with her sincerity and her charming style. When Thuy delivered the first speech in the toastmaster session a while ago she spoke English 100%, this time Thuy delivered it in Vietnamese and only had about 30-40% for the English part, bravo! Probably next time she will give us a 100% Vietnamese speech, how's that?
In the second speech, Hoang Duc shared with us some of his view on the topic of "Teamwork". He started with a very good story and led everyone into the topic itself.
The third speaker was Phuong A'nh with the topic "Mother" (Me.) and the mother love reflection in Vietnamese folklore (ca dao tu.c ngu*~).
The evaluation session was led by anh Nguyen Ngoc Bao with Nong Duy Dat as evaluator for Elena, Le Trinh as evaluator for Hoang Duc and Nguyen Bach Tuyet as evaluator for Phuong Anh.
Timer Ho Ngoc Tram then recorded the timing of each speech and then anh Le Mong Hung as grammarian reported the ah, uh, oh counting from each speaker.
Everyone then selected the Best speaker for table topic, best prepared speech and also best evaluator. An Quoc Truong was selected as the best table topic speaker, Elena Thuy Tran was selected as the Best Prepared Speaker and Nguyen Bach Tuyet was selected as Best Evaluator.
The toastmaster session was run by anh Nguyen Quoc Doan and the president corner was led by chi Nguyen Phuc Anh Lan.
The toastmaster session concluded with the Birthday celebration of anh Nguyen Ngoc Bao and we also view some part of the video of the Youth Recognition Luncheon.
Please join me to welcome the five brand new members just signing up during this Friday meeting: Britany Le (bravo!), Le Quang Danh (from the dance team), An Quoc Truong (Ba Trieu team from Len duong camp), Tina Nguyen (our last speaker in the July toastmaster, bravo!) and Nguyen Long (first time attendee of our toastmaster program). We also have a guest from New Orleans, anh Daniel Albert Francoise.
Regards,
Anhlan
