TOASTMASTERS REPORT
I am happy to report to you all about a fun and exciting toastmaster session we had on Friday Night November 12, 1999 at York Town Club house.
Nearly 40 people attended the session in a cozy atmosphere of room filled with enery. The attendants were a good representation of different age groups and backgrounds. It started at 8:00PM sharp (yeah! ON TIME)
Our club president chi Anh Lan opened the session and
welcomed all the guests. She then introduced Nguyen Quoc Doan as the
toastmaster. Doan Nguyen gave an overview to everyone of what toastmasters program was and
how it was conducted before introducing the functionaries for the
evening. The functionaries were: bac Hoang Kim Bao jokemaster;
Nong Duy Truong wordmaster; bac Nguyen Tong timer; Phuong Anh grammarian; & vote counter Nam Linh. All of our functionaries, who were well prepared, carried out their roles very well. Especially bac Tong, our new member who graciously accepted the responsibility of the timer for the first time and did a very good job. Way to go bac Tong!
The table topic session was led by anh Nguyen Ngoc Bao who skillfully led the group into two stimulating table topics which were "How would you respond when you are wrongly accused? (Khi bi chup mu hay vu khong ban se su xu ra sao?" and "What do you think about living togther (live in) before marriage? (Ban nghi gi ve su song chung voi nhau truoc hon nhan?" The participation for this session was overwhelming. Nearly twenty people volunteered to give their opinions on these topics. The room was filled with energy and excitement.
Then Doan Nguyen introduced Thanh Tran whose topic was "Language Barriers." to be the first speaker of the prepared speech session. Then the second speaker was our veteran member Ho Ngoc Tram who gave us an informative speech on human rights. Then last but not least, our club president chi AnLan Nguyen gave a inspiring speech on the one the seven habits of highly leader which was "Be Proactive in Your Life."
Then we moved into the evaluation session which was conducted by Trinh Le. Our evaluators were: Hoang Nguyen Duc evaluated Thanh Tran; Anh Dien evaluated Tram Ho (thank you anh Dien for filling in at the last minute); and Tran Thien evaluated chi Anh Lan. Trinh Le gave her opinions on how the evaluators had evaluated the speakers and then she expressed her overall observation about the whole session.
Because we run of out time the winners were not announced at the session; however, the results are:
Best table topic: skipped; due to too many people spoke
Best Speaker: Nguyen Phuc Anh Lan
Best evaluator: Hoang Nguyen Duc
Overall, the toastmasters session went great (of course,
there are always things that we could improve to make it better every time). I think
the main reason that we had such a productive and fun toastmaster session because everyone
had prepared for his/her role well. If you have any comments or ideas of how we could to
make it better, we would love to hear from you. Hope to see all of these attendants
and many more new faces at our next toastmasters session which will be on Friday Dec. 10,
199 @ the same place.
Until then, please take good care of yourselves,
Nguyen Quoc Doan
